Essential oils as a snoring remedy are great for naturally reducing or stopping the problem altogether. Oils can be applied in different ways to attack different causes.

You can diffuse them into the air in your bedroom; apply them to the soles of your feet; do a steam inhalation treatment with a towel over your head; add to some Epsom Salts and take a hot bath; dilute them with a carrier oil and massage them on your skin; or gargle a couple drops in a glass of water.

What Causes Snoring?

This condition can have several different causes so you may want to see a medical professional to determine what the exact problem is. As part of your discussion you can mention that you would like to incorporate essential oils instead of pharmaceutical options.

The following are some of the causes that you may have to address:

  • Lack of good quality sleep - If you have issues with adequate duration or quality of sleep you may tend to snore
  • Nasal problems - You may have structural issues with your respiratory system such as a deviated septum or perhaps you have an infection
  • Thick palate - Your palate may be obstructing your airway causing you to snore
  • Sleep apnea - This is a common issue with people who snore
  • Alcohol - If you are a drinker, especially just before bed time, you may also have issues with snoring

Oils For "Snoring Remedy"

Clove Oil

Clove Oil can be used as a snoring remedy by removing phlegm from your throat and chest.

This can be accomplished through internal consumption, external application, as well as by inhalation.

Clove can be added to herbal tea or a glass of warm water and provides a very enjoyable flavor to your drinks.

When added to a carrier oil like fractionated coconut it can be used as a massage oil for your sinuses and chest to open your breathing passages.

Clove Oil can form 20% of a blend with other milder oils on this page and diffused into the air at bed time. Inhaling Clove Oil will help treat your congestion and open your nasal passages.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is known as one of the best oils for clearing airways and is frequently used to treat bronchial and sinus infections, as well as for the common cold.

It is therefore reasonable that it should also be used as an effective snoring remedy.

In fact, you can effectively remove phlegm and mucous from your sinus and vocal chords by inhaling Eucalyptus from your palms or mixing a few drops with warm water and gargling. 

You might be surprised to learn, however, that it can also effectively open your airways by external application to the toes and balls of the feet.

Other external applications include massaging your sinuses, chest and upper back with a 50:50 blend of Eucalyptus and carrier oil such as fractionated coconut.

If you have Asthma you may want to choose Eucalyptus Globulus instead.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil is famous for its ability to relieve congestion and dislodge phlegm associated with many respiratory conditions.

For a quality snoring remedy it can be mixed 50:50 with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut and applied topically under your nose or on your back, chest and neck. An undiluted application to the soles of your feet is very helpful in ensuring a good nights sleep.

It can also be inhaled from a tissue, your palms or by diffusion

Lemon Essential Oil

The antispasmodic properties of Lemon Essential Oil can help as a snoring remedy. It also supports the respiratory system and eases symptoms of asthma. 

Lemon Oil can be added to your drinking water or consumed daily in a gelatin capsule with each meal.

Lemon oil can be gargled with water or massaged on your throat and chest to clear your airways.

Marjoram Essential Oil

Marjoram Essential Oil has expectorant and sinus clearing properties which makes it a great snoring remedy.

It has also been used in the treatment of sleep apnea which is a known cause of snoring.

Add 10-15 drops in a cup of Epsom Salts and take a nice aromatic bath.

Marjoram can be diffused to promote healthy respiratory functions.

Add 2 – 3 drops of Marjoram to some water and gargle before going to bed.

Putt a drop on a q-tip and apply to the underside of your nose at bed time.

Peppermint Oil 

Peppermint Oil contains Menthol which is a soothing agent that is known for relieving snoring. Peppermint also has anti-inflammatory properties which can ease inflamed membranes and reduce congestion so you are able to breathe easier.

To maintain good respiratory health and to clear the sinuses making it easier to breath: 

  • diffuse peppermint oil in your bedroom 
  • put a couple drops in hot water and breathe the vapors. Exhale frequently to activate more steam
  • put a drop in your palms or add it to a tissue and inhale deeply 
  • add a drop to some drinking water or a cup of tea

Pine Essential Oil

If you have ever been walking in a pine forest after a fresh rainfall you will understand why Pine Essential Oil is a fantastic oil for respiratory conditions and is often used as a snoring remedy.

Pine is a natural anti-inflammatory that works to keep your airways clear and open while you sleep. This makes it a great choice for a snoring remedy.

Inhale using a diffuser twice a day or inhale off of a tissue.

Thyme Essential Oil

Thyme Essential Oil has been used for hundreds of years as a snoring remedy because of its effectiveness as a treatment for respiratory issues.

Put a towel over your head and inhale 4-5 drops from a bowl of hot water in a steam inhalation treatment. Blow into the water periodically to increase the volume of steam.

Add 5 drops of Thyme Oil to a cup of Epsom Salts and take a relaxing aromatic bath. For additional effectiveness include 10 drops each of Lavender and Eucalyptus Radiata to the mixture.

Create a blend using 5% Thyme and 95% other oils on this page and diffuse it in your bedroom while you sleep. You can also apply this blend on your chest, back of the neck and soles of your feet prior to going to bed.
