How Can Essential Oils Assist Alzheimers?

Effect of aromatherapy on patients with Alzheimer's disease. In the present study, we examined the curative effects of aromatherapy in dementia in 28 elderly people, 17 of whom had Alzheimer's disease (AD) PubMed.gov  

Essential oils are beneficial for Alzheimers because of the ways they impact your brain and the chemicals in it.

  • many oils can improve your mood
  • many oils reduce stress
  • some stimulate the neurons in your brain
  • some oils can increase your focus
  • some scents can trigger chemical changes in the brain
  • some oils are known to improve your memory

According to a study of the use of rosemary and lemon essential oils in the morning, and lavender and orange in the evening, aromatherapy was found to have some potential for improving cognitive function, especially in AD patients. 

Single Oils For Alzheimers

Bergamot Essential Oil

Take one drop of Bergamot Essential Oil internally to alleviate insomnia, reduce anxiety and depression and improve symptoms of Alzheimers. You can use a gelatin capsule or put it in your food or water.

Put 15 drops of Bergamot in a cup of Epsom Salts and take a relaxing hot bath.

Apply it topically to your feet and the back of your neck. If used topically avoid direct sunlight for 12 hours.

Diffuse 20 drops into the air or inhale from a cotton ball placed inside your pillowcase. You can also put a couple drops on your palms and breath it in when needed.

note: Be careful using if you also have diabetes.

Frankincense Essential Oil is known for it's ability to improve cognitive health and is increasingly used in Alzhimers, brain injury, and dementia.

It can be consumed by putting 2-3 drops in a gelatin capsule once a day.

Whenever you feel nervous or tense try rubbing a few drops on the bottoms of your feet, the back of your neck or under your nose.

Whenever you feel nervous or tense try rubbing a few drops on the bottoms of your feet. I have found it easiest to drop Frankincense oil on one foot and then use it to rub the other foot so I don't get any on my hands.

Lavender Essential Oil
